In 2023, Simpson announced on X that he was diagnosed with cancer and by February, he was undergoing chemotherapy for prostate cancer.
Simpson had a 10-year NFL career and was a fan favourite.
He later pursued acting, notably in the Naked Gun movies with Leslie Nielsen.
His 1995 murder trial became a media frenzy, with his defence team challenging a strong case from the prosecution.
Simpson was seen as guilty by prosecutors of killing Nicole and Goldman in a jealous rage, two years after their divorce. His acquittal on October 3, 1995, caused mixed reactions nationwide.
In 2008, Simpson was sentenced to 33 years for kidnapping and armed robbery in a Las Vegas hotel incident over sports memorabilia. He was released in 2017.
