As the WGA and SAG-AFTRA union strikes continue, familiar Hollywood faces have stepped forward like a real-life Avengers team, uniting to make a difference and answer the call.
A total of $15 million has been donated to the SAG-AFTRA Foundation’s Emergency Financial Assistance Program by some of Hollywood’s greatest. This fund isn’t about grand gestures; it’s about essential support for union members whose lives have been thrown into uncertainty by the strikes. These funds aim to ensure people keep their homes, pay for their food, and cover other basic needs.
Thank you to @VancityReynolds, @blakelively, @TheRock, @RealHughJackman, @LeoDiCaprio, @JLo, @BenAffleck, @Oprah, and the other @sagaftra members who stepped up big to support their fellow actors today.— SAG-AFTRA Foundation (@sagaftraFOUND) August 2, 2023

It all started with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, the Black Adam star, donating an undisclosed seven-figure amount to the Foundation. He has since been joined by a list of Hollywood’s biggest names such as:
- George and Amal Clooney
- Luciana and Matt Damon
- Leonardo DiCaprio
- Hugh Jackman
- Deborra-lee Furness
- Nicole Kidman
- Jennifer Lopez
- Ben Affleck
- Ryan Reynolds
- Blake Lively
- Julia Roberts
- Arnold Schwarzenegger
- Meryl Streep
- Oprah Winfrey
Each of these stars has donated more than a million dollars to the cause, proving that even the rich and famous have a heart – or at least a very good accountant!
These donations aren’t just about throwing money at a problem; they’re about showing solidarity and support for the 75-90% of SAG-AFTRA members who make less than $26,470 a year from acting.
While critics might point fingers and talk about “hypocrisy,” these stars are proving that they can walk the picket line with the best of them. If it takes a little star power to shine a light on the struggles of those who don’t get top billing, so be it.
These real-life Avengers are standing tall, providing more than just entertainment or escapism. They’re offering real support, hope, and, dare we say it, a touch of heroism.
