Drew Barrymore recently opened up about her daughter’s recovery after a serious e-bike accident overseas. The actress, best known for her roles in 50 First Dates and Charlie’s Angels, revealed during an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert that her daughter is doing well after the incident.

Barrymore explained that the accident happened during a family trip to France. Her daughter, who was “a mile up in the mountains,” suffered a severe injury to her elbow and had to spend several days in the hospital. Despite the scary situation, Barrymore assured fans that her daughter is now okay.

“The last time we were supposed to get together, my daughter ended up having an accident,” she said, stressing that her daughter is doing well now. “My daughter, actually she got in an e-bike accident. In France, which sounds so fabulous. Yes, so we were in fabulous France and then she had an e-bike accident.”

She explained that her daughter “ripped her whole elbow open” and caused her to spend days in an E.R. Fortunately the tween’s quick thinking proved she’s good in a crisis.

The actress, who shares daughters Olive (12) and Frankie (10) with ex-husband Will Kopelman, shared how impressed she was by her daughter’s quick thinking during the crisis. “She ripped off her bra and turned it into a tourniquet,” Barrymore said. “That’s just who she is. I just marvel at her.”

This isn’t the first time Barrymore has expressed admiration for her daughters. Earlier this year, Olive and Frankie surprised their mom with heartfelt letters for her 50th birthday on The Drew Barrymore Show.

The incident serves as a reminder of both the risks of electric bikes and the importance of staying prepared while traveling. Brining it back home, e-scooters and e-bikes has introduced a new set of safety challenges on Australian roads and footpaths, leading to a concerning rise in accidents, injuries, and fatalities. Data from the past year highlights the significant risks associated with these devices, particularly for children and vulnerable road users.

A study by the University of Melbourne found a clear upward trend in e-scooter fatalities. In 2024, there were 13 recorded deaths, and in the first half of 2025 alone, there have already been 10. Queensland, with its widespread adoption of e-scooters, accounts for a significant portion of these incidents, with at least eight deaths recorded in 2024
