Mackay pub turns pink for breast cancer campaign
Mackay's Mt Pleasant Tavern is turning a bright shade of pink this month, in support of breast cancer research.
More than 100 venues across the state are taking part in a campaign called Project Pink, raising funds and awareness for the disease.
PA Research Foundation CEO Damian Topp says the campaign is running until the end of May in the hopes of increasing research to find a cure.
"If you look at the Sunshine Coast through to Townsville and Cairns, there's over 40 venues that will be raising funds for our breast cancer research," Mr Topp says.
Last year, over 3,000 Australians were killed by breast cancer including 33 males and 2,997 females.
Mr Topp says Project Pink has already contributed an immense amount of funds to the cause.
"The main goal is to raise funds, and the group has raised well over $2 million over the last eleven years," he says.
