A Mackay man has been fined over $1200 and won't be driving again until August, after allegedly being caught driving 45 kays over the limit in the Whitsunday region.

Queensland Police say they allegedly clocked the 40 year old driving 145km/h in a 100km/h zone during speed enforcement patrols along Peter Delemothe Road, Collinsville this week.

"The driver was issued an on the spot fine of $1,245 which subsequently lead to the loss of eight demerit points and a six month disqualification period," Police say.

"During the course of the morning police issued a further 12 infringement notices to other motorists for speeding on the same road."

Ten of those infringements involved the driver travelling at least 13km/h over the speed limit.

Police are urging all motorists to obey the speed limits and will continue to enforce the road rules for those drivers who choose to do the wrong thing.
