Snakes are making the most of the warmer days.
More of the reptiles are moving around the Mackay and Whitsunday region, increasing the risk of bites.
A woman in her 20s was struck by a snake in Airlie Beach last night.
Paramedics were called to the scene on Shingley Drive at 9.08pm.
She was transported to Proserpine Hospital in a stable condition.
January and February is one of the busiest times for snakes as they emerge from breeding and babies hatch.
Snake catcher Stuart McKenzie says they’ll hide anywhere that gives them cover.
“Whether that’s gaps under a concrete slab, or in amongst bricks or in tin, piles of debris.”
“In chicken coops and bird aviaries, where they know they can get an easy feed as well, its like a buffet waiting for them.”
