Two men have been charged over the alleged murder of Benn Schinkel at Capricornia Correctional Centre.
The 31-year-old was found unresponsive inside the activities building on October 22, 2022.
He was transported to Rockhampton Hospital, where he died the next day.
It will be alleged that Benn’s injuries were sustained as the result of a serious assault.
Following an extensive 13-month investigation detectives arrested two men on Wednesday, December 6.
A 25-year-old man formerly of Townsville and a 36-year-old man formerly of Mackay have both been charged with one count each of murder and extortion.
It will be alleged both men were prisoners in Capricornia Correctional Centre at the time of the incident and remained in corrections custody at a Wacol facility at the time of their arrest.
Both men are expected to reappear before Brisbane Magistrates Court at later dates.
Police continue to urge anyone with information regarding this investigation to come forward.
