A fatal police shooting at Ilbilbie south of Mackay is under investigation.
Police were called to the Country View Motel on Greenhill Street around 10.30am yesterday as part of a targeted operation in relation to a man wanted over a number of offences.
Superintendent Graeme Paine says the 39-year-old New South Wales man tried to escape before shots were fired.
“As officers approached a vehicle in the carpark of the location, a male person entered the vehicle and officers have approached the male to initiate an arrest,” he says.
“During the arrest process it will be alleged that the male has produced a firearm.”
Officers allegedly fired multiple shots, killing the man at the scene.
A crime scene has been declared at the address and police investigations are continuing.
This matter is under investigation by Ethical Standards Command on behalf of the State Coroner, with the investigation subject to oversight by the Crime and Corruption Commission.
