A man has died after he was shot by police in Airlie Beach this morning.
It’s believed the man in his 20s was allegedly armed with a knife when he approached police on Shute Harbour Road around 12:20am.
Police say the man threatened officers before advancing on them and was subsequently shot.
A crime scene has been established as investigations continue.
The incident is under investigation by the Ethical Standards Command on behalf of the State Coroner, and is subject to oversight by the Crime and Corruption Commission.
