Authorities are calling for anyone with information to come forward, after a 48-year-old was hit on the head as he was walking through the CBD.
Police say the man was attempting to break up an altercation between two men and a woman on Carlyle Street during the early hours of Saturday morning, when the attack took place.
The 48-year-old managed to then make his way to a store on Shakespeare Street and get help, before being taken to Mackay Base Hospital.

Detective Inspector Emma Novosel is calling on anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage to contact them.
