After months of anticipation the first Australian-made rocket has failed to launch.

The Gilmour Space orbital rocket, called Eris, was launched from the Bowen Orbital Spaceport around 8.36am Wednesday, hovering for a few seconds before crashing back down to Earth.

The Gold Coast company has tried to launch several times this year, but was forced to delay due to weather and technical issues.

Josh Keegan from Aussienaut live streamed the launch attempt on his YouTube channel, which showed the rocket get off the ground briefly, but crashed shortly after without enough thrust to take off.

Gilmour Space Technologies have been contacted for comment.
