Police are searching for a motorcyclist who was travelling at dangerous speeds at Pleystowe.

Officers were performing mobile speed enforcement patrols on the Mackay Eungella Road around 5:50pm Sunday when they noticed the rider.

It’s alleged they were clocked at 224km/hr in a 90 km/hr speed zone.

Police were travelling in the opposite direction and say they didn’t have a realistic opportunity to intercept the rider.

Efforts to locate the rider closer to Mackay were not successful.

Anyone who may have relevant information or dashcam footage is encouraged to contact police as soon as possible.

“At this alleged speed, there is no chance of surviving even the smallest unexpected circumstance like striking a pothole, driving through water on the road or simply having a car pull out in front of you,” Senior Constable Steve Smith says.

“I can offer no explanation on what could possibly help a person think that this speed is safe for either themselves or any other motorist who they may strike on the road. We need to speak with this rider, for everyone’s sake. All motorists must show respect for speed limits.”
