It has been another busy month for the BMA CQ Rescue crew, with 63 lifesaving missions completed across Central and North Queensland, and almost 120 hours spent in the sky responding to emergencies.

Throughout February, the helicopter responded to emergencies across Bowen, Cape Palmerston, Charters Towers, Clermont, Dysart, Greenhill, Hamilton Island, Haslewood Island, Keswick Island, Moranbah, Proserpine, and Townsville.

Many of the calls involved head injuries, abdominal emergencies, and motor vehicle accidents, alongside respiratory distress, fractures, internal injuries, cardiac events, and obstetric complications.

The crew also responded to two search and rescue operations.

Early in February, BMA CQ Rescue responded to a quad bike accident at Ilbilbie, where two patients were treated for multiple injuries, including lacerations to their arms and legs, before being airlifted to Mackay for further care.

Just days later, the crew were tasked to Haslewood Island to assist a man suffering a marine sting.

The patient was experiencing significant pain, respiratory issues, and intermittent loss of consciousness.

CQ Rescue’s medical team were winched to the scene before transporting him to Mackay for further treatment.

Later in the month, the crew responded to a motorcycle accident at Cape Palmerston National Park, with the patient transported to Mackay in a serious but stable condition.

They were also tasked to a bulk carrier off the coast of Bowen for the emergency retrieval of a patient suffering a compound ankle fracture.

A paramedic and Rescue Crew Officer were winched onto the vessel, where the patient was assessed and treated before being safely transferred for further care.
