70th Anniversary 1956 Olympic Torch Relay Reunion
Good afternoon,
I have attached a 1-page letter explaining the above-mentioned event we are organising here in Mackay on the 14th of November 2026 at the Mackay & District Senior Citizens Hall with RSVP of 6th November 2026. The reason the event is being held here is that in 1956 the trials were run around this block for runners to qualify to run with the Olympic Torch.
Happy to report we do have found 14 original runners alive, who I am hoping will be in attendance on this day. It is really more about getting them together and acknowledging their part in a wonderful, proud Mackay historical event back in the day.
The mayor will be in attendance and will say a few words.
You were recommended for me to contact you by Mrs. Lyn Coburn and Mr. Col Benson.
Looking forward to your assistance and support of this event.
I will await your response and thanks in advance.
Kind regards,
Majella Daley (Mrs)
