Mariah Carey’s Annual Christmas Cash Splash
Every December in Australia, as we fire up the barbecue and embrace the 42°C heat, while Mariah Carey is busy counting her yuletide riches. Her mega-hit “All I Want for Christmas Is You” reportedly brings in a cool US$2.5 million every year in royalties.

An Aussie Boycott… Just for One Year?
Now here is a cheeky proposition: Maybe us Aussies take a stand. A silent night, if you will. No playlists blasting it in Coles, no office party sing-alongs, no neighbours letting it loop over and over from November. Just one year off.
Imagine it, discovering fresh Christmas bangers, reviving Aussie classics, maybe even giving Six White Boomers a shocking comeback.

The Verdict
Nothing against the Queen of Christmas, but surely someone else deserves a slice of that holiday fruitcake. Mariah has had a 30-year winning streak.

So why not give the poor song a sabbatical and let an Aussie artist have a crack at the Christmas crown? We could be blasting a brand new anthem about sunburn, pavlova battles and chasing flies off the prawns.
Mariah will still wake up on a bed of royalties. But we might just score the most Aussie Christmas soundtrack ever.
